Getting started
After downloading the DMG, open it and drag Veil to your Applications folder. On first launch, macOS will ask you to grant Accessibility permission so Veil can detect the active window. Approve this in System Settings → Privacy & Security → Accessibility.
Once permissions are set, click the Veil icon in the menu bar to toggle the blur overlay before your next call or recording. The frontmost app stays clear while background windows become harder to read.
Common setup checks
- Use the official release. Download only from veilformac.com or the GitHub releases page to avoid tampered copies.
- Accessibility permission. If Veil is not following the active window, open System Settings → Privacy & Security → Accessibility and make sure Veil is checked.
- Toggle before sharing. Turn on the overlay before you start screen sharing in Zoom, Teams, Google Meet, or any other meeting app.
- Check the active window. Veil keeps the frontmost app clear. If the wrong app is clear, click the window you want to present or set a Cover App in the menu.
Troubleshooting tips
- Blur not appearing: Make sure Veil is running (look for the icon in the menu bar) and that Accessibility permission is granted.
- License not activating: Copy your license key exactly as it appears in the email. If it still fails, check your network connection—Veil validates the key online.
- Stage Manager issues: On macOS Ventura and later, Stage Manager groups windows differently. Veil v1.0.5 and above handles this, so update if you see unexpected behavior.
- Multi-monitor problems: Veil can blur per-screen or globally. Check the menu-bar options to confirm which mode you are using.
Pricing and license
Veil includes a free 3-day trial so you can test it before buying. After the trial, a one-time $7.90 payment unlocks the app for life on one Mac. There is no subscription.
After purchasing, you will receive a license key by email. Open Veil, go to Settings, and paste the key to activate. For step-by-step instructions, see the activation guide.

Note: Veil for Mac (veilformac.com) is a separate product from "Veil-Focus & Screen Privacy" on the App Store. If you purchased or downloaded the App Store app, that is a different developer—contact Apple or that app's support instead.
