Why Recording Leaks Happen
Most leaks come from context switching: a private message arrives, you open the wrong tab, or a background window pops up during recording. Manual minimizing is easy to miss.
30-Second Pre-Recording Checklist
- Open only the app you want to present.
- In Veil, set that app as your Cover App.
- Toggle Veil on before you hit record.
- Use Peek only when needed, then return to protected mode.
Why This Is Better Than Manual Cleanup
- No repeated minimize/restore dance before every take.
- Lower risk of exposing chat windows during live narration.
- Faster retakes when you switch topics mid-recording.
Best Use Cases
- Product demos and launch videos.
- Tutorial recordings for clients or students.
- Internal walkthroughs that include private team tools.
- YouTube or Loom videos where you need a clean background.
Recording App Differences
- Loom: Loom captures your screen as-is. With Veil on, background windows stay blurred in your recording.
- QuickTime Player: Same behavior—whatever is visible on screen gets recorded, including Veil's blur effect.
- OBS: OBS captures your desktop layer. Veil's blur is visible in your recording just like any other visual effect.
What About Notifications?
Veil blurs background windows, but macOS notifications can still appear during recording. To prevent this:
- Enable Do Not Disturb from Control Center before recording.
- Or set up a Focus mode in System Settings → Focus to suppress notifications during your recording session.
Multi-Display Recording
If you have multiple monitors and are recording a specific display, Veil blurs windows on all displays. The blur is visible on whichever screen you're recording.
Accessibility Permission Troubleshooting
If Veil does not follow your active window during recording:
- Open System Settings → Privacy & Security → Accessibility.
- Find Veil in the list. Toggle it off, then on again.
- Restart Veil from the menu bar.
